Is Decentralised DMS a thing?

I have never thought of Document Management Systems (DMS) in the context of a centralised solution; we know it is centralised, and it has always been so. It is easy to assume and take for granted that centralised DMS are the accepted and expected way forward. After all, who doesn't love the convenience and scalability of cloud storage? However, as we navigate this post-cloud world, maybe it's logical to question whether our reliance on cloud storage is essential.

The Cloud Conundrum

Cloud computing has revolutionized the way we store and manage data. No longer are we bound by the constraints of physical storage space or hardware limitations. Cloud providers offer scalable solutions that adapt to our ever-changing needs, making collaborating and accessing documents from anywhere easier.

However, this convenience comes with a price. Our reliance on cloud storage has led to a culture of dependency, where organizations may not be as concerned about their data's security, compliance, and governance. After all, if everything is just "up in the cloud," what could go wrong?
